Kate Garraway, who recently returned to her show just three days after her husband Derek's funeral, became emotional as she shared a touching gesture from Kate Middleton while recovering from surgery in the hospital.
The presenter, visibly moved, expressed her gratitude for receiving a "lovely" letter of condolence from the future Queen following Derek's tragic passing.
In a heartfelt moment on GMB, Kate Garraway recounted how both Prince William and Princess Kate reached out to offer their condolences during her difficult time. She particularly appreciated Kate Middleton's gesture, considering she herself had recently been hospitalized for abdominal surgery.
"Catherine and William sent a beautiful letter. I know that Catherine has been in hospital herself, so I really appreciated that," Garraway revealed, tears welling up in her eyes.
She also shared about a letter from King Charles, acknowledging his understanding of grief and the complexities surrounding it.
Derek Draper, Garraway's husband, fell ill during the early stages of the pandemic in March 2020 and endured a 13-month hospitalization before his passing on January 3, 2024, due to lingering COVID-19 symptoms.
Reflecting on the support she received from the royal family, Garraway remarked, "I just think it was lovely of them to reach out to me, but it’s lovely to know that those people understand those emotions. I think for all of us, it connects us all together."
The touching gesture from Kate Middleton and the royal family underscored the power of empathy and solidarity during times of grief.
