King Charles Expresses Concerns About Prince William's Royal Responsibilities Amid Cancer Diagnosis

In light of his cancer diagnosis, King Charles has expressed concerns about burdening Prince William with additional royal obligations, especially considering his son's familial responsibilities and Kate Middleton's gradual recovery from abdominal surgery.

A source close to the royal household, speaking exclusively to People magazine, revealed that the King is hesitant to impose undue pressure on Prince William, as he has always prioritized shielding his children from early royal duties. The source emphasized that the King's primary concern is to alleviate any added stress on Prince William, particularly given his commitments to his family.

While Prince William may assume some of his father's duties if necessary, there are currently no plans to appoint Counsellors of State. The Prince of Wales retains the ability to fulfill constitutional responsibilities in the King's absence. Nonetheless, King Charles will continue to engage in behind-the-scenes work, including handling "red boxes" and other administrative tasks.

Royal biographer Robert Hardman, author of The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, explained that although the King will withdraw from public duties for an extended period, he will remain actively involved in various tasks. These responsibilities may not always involve large public gatherings but will still contribute to the functioning of the monarchy.
