King Charles' Recent Decision Puts Prince Louis in Line for Top Royal Title

Prince Louis, currently fourth in line to the throne, holds the official title of His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Wales, following his father Prince William and older siblings Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

With King Charles's ascent to the throne, several royals saw their official titles undergo changes. Among these changes, one significant title adjustment may affect Prince Louis's future prospects.

Last year, it was announced that King Charles bestowed the title of Duke of Edinburgh upon his younger brother, Prince Edward. Consequently, Sophie, the former Countess of Wessex, assumed the title of Duchess of Edinburgh, while their son, James, Viscount Severn, became the new Earl of Wessex.

However, there's a caveat with Edward's new Edinburgh title—it remains non-hereditary and will revert to the Crown upon his passing, rather than being passed to his son, James.

According to recent reports, this decision opens the door for one of the children of the Prince and Princess of Wales to potentially inherit the title in the future, with Prince Louis emerging as the prime candidate.

While Prince George is poised to become a future King and Princess Charlotte may eventually be bestowed the title of Princess Royal, Prince Louis could potentially be conferred the title of Duke of Edinburgh or another title selected by King Charles or his father, Prince William, if he assumes the throne by that time.
