Reports suggest that the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, chose not to join her husband, Prince Harry, in visiting the ailing King Charles, citing discomfort with potential interactions with the royal family.
Despite Prince Harry's visit to Clarence House in London on February 6 to see his father following the monarch's cancer diagnosis, Meghan Markle, along with their two children, did not accompany him on the trip to the UK.
Addressing Meghan's absence, relationship expert Louella Alderson explained to The Mirror that Meghan's strained relationship with the royal family, particularly since their departure from the UK and subsequent media comments, may have contributed to her decision.
Louella remarked, "...Meghan hasn't had the best relationship with the Royal Family throughout her time with Harry, which seems to have only gotten worse since their departure from the UK and all of their comments to the media."
She elaborated, "It's understandable that she may not feel comfortable or want to be in a situation where she has to interact with them during such a difficult time."
Louella suggested that Meghan's choice not to attend likely stems from her desire to avoid potential discomfort and to maintain focus on King Charles's health.
Buckingham Palace's announcement on Monday, February 5, revealed the Monarch's diagnosis of cancer, stating, "During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer."
The Palace further disclosed that King Charles "has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties" during his treatment.
