In response to King Charles' cancer diagnosis, Prince William has been called upon to assume some of the monarch's duties as he takes a step back from public life.
Following Buckingham Palace's announcement on Monday, January 5th, confirming the 75-year-old king's cancer diagnosis during a recent procedure for an enlarged prostate, arrangements are being made for Prince William to represent King Charles in certain royal duties.
While King Charles will continue to fulfill his state business and paperwork obligations, he will temporarily withdraw from public engagements on the advice of his doctors.
Royal correspondent Cameron Walker, speaking to GB News, highlighted the increased responsibilities falling on Prince William's shoulders: "Prince William, I'm told, is also possibly going to be taking on some of King Charles' duties or representing the King on behalf of him, but certainly not all."
Although King Charles will maintain his weekly audience with the Prime Minister, precautions will be taken to avoid in-person meetings based on medical advice. Similarly, arrangements will be made for privy council meetings, with the king's attendance expected albeit possibly in a different format.
Despite these adjustments, King Charles remains committed to his constitutional duties, including reviewing government papers and cabinet minutes, ensuring the continuity of his official responsibilities amidst his health concerns.
