King Charles Contemplates Early Abdication in Favor of Prince William, Prompting Speculation and Concern
The late Queen Elizabeth II would likely view with disappointment the rumored arrangement between her son, King Charles, and grandson, Prince William, regarding the British throne's succession.
In an interview with the Daily Express, royal expert Clive Irving suggested that the 75-year-old King may be contemplating an earlier-than-expected abdication in favor of his son.
"While Charles undoubtedly feels a strong sense of duty, having waited so long to ascend the throne, he is also acutely aware of being the oldest monarch ever to be coronated," explained Irving, author of "The Last Queen."
"It appears that a tentative agreement has been reached for Charles to step down and pass the reins to William once he reaches the age of 80," Irving disclosed. "The signs of this gradual transition are becoming increasingly apparent, as Charles delegates more and more responsibilities to William. Charles recognizes that William may be better suited to represent the monarchy in the modern era."
It's worth noting that Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles's mother, holds the distinction of being Britain's longest-serving monarch. Crowned at the age of 25, she remained dedicated to her royal duties for over 70 years, even in the face of various health challenges.
