Tyler Perry, a close friend of Meghan Markle, has come under fire from film enthusiasts following the release of his latest Netflix movie.
The actor and producer directed "Mea Culpa," a romantic thriller that premiered on the streaming platform last week.
Perry extended hospitality to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry when they relocated to the United States in 2020 after stepping back from the Royal Family. He also made appearances in their Netflix documentary series.
The couple, accompanied by their son Archie, resided in Perry's Beverly Hills residence for several months before moving to their home in Montecito.
While Perry gained prominence as an actor before transitioning to directing and producing, his latest film "Mea Culpa" received criticism from viewers shortly after its Netflix debut, with many labeling the plot as "boring."
Starring Kelly Rowland, the movie revolves around her character, a criminal defense attorney, who agrees to represent a man accused of murdering his girlfriend.
Social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), have been inundated with complaints and backlash against the film since its release.
"This movie is boring... #MeaCulpa," one user expressed, while another criticized, "#MeaCulpa is the worst movie I've seen in a long time. The acting was so terrible it was cringe-worthy, and the storyline was predictable and boring. What a waste of time."
Despite the negative reception of his film, Tyler Perry previously offered his support to the Sussexes following their high-profile departure from the royal family.
Speaking on NBC's Today in 2022, Perry remarked about the couple: "Yes, it was a very difficult time for them. What I know about the two of them, that I wish the world knew, is how much they love.
"These two people love each other. The love they have is really, really moving, and I just wanted to do anything I could to support them," he affirmed.
