Following the announcement of Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis, her uncle Gary Goldsmith has publicly expressed remorse for his past criticism of Meghan Markle, whom he had previously referred to as "laughing girl."
In an interview with The Times UK last week, Goldsmith had strongly criticized the Duchess of Sussex, describing her as "fickle" and suggesting she was "bad for our country." He had also taken offense to Markle's allegations of racism within the royal family, particularly regarding comments made about her son, Prince Archie's, skin color.
However, in light of Kate's recent health news, Goldsmith took to Twitter to apologize for his previous comments. "As many will have seen, I am featured in Saturday’s ‘Times Magazine.’ This interview and shoot was done over a week ago and went to print before I was aware of the sad news regarding my niece Kate," he wrote.
Expressing his concern and support for Kate and the entire family during this challenging time, Goldsmith continued, "My thoughts and prayers are with Kate and the wider family at this difficult time, and I'm deeply upset about the timing of this article. I hope this draws a line over the continued speculation and horrible conspiracies. Let’s give Kate, William & the children time and show some love back."
Goldsmith emphasized his belief in the diversity of his family's background, stating, "Me and Carole [Middleton] grew up in a community as diverse as a Woolies pick’n’mix counter. All the cultures you can think of. The idea that Meghan would label Kate as racist is something that deeply angers me. Kate is aware of her family's diverse roots and takes pride in them. I genuinely believe Meghan is not understanding the true nature of our family."
It's worth noting that The Times UK interview with Goldsmith was conducted prior to Kate Middleton's announcement about undergoing early-stage preventative chemotherapy.
