The Duke of Sussex, who withdrew from his royal obligations in 2020 alongside his wife Meghan Markle, faces the possibility that his permanent relocation to the US may forever strain his familial bonds, according to insights from King Charles' former royal butler, Grant Harrold.
In an interview with Slingo, via The Mirror, Harrold expressed sadness over Harry's decision to completely sever ties with his homeland, describing it as "very sad."
"It seems he has made the choice to fully distance himself from his roots," remarked Harrold.
On Monday, Prince Harry formalized his residency status in the US by declaring his Montecito residence as his primary address in the documentation of his travel company, Travelyst.
Informing British authorities of his move, Prince Harry now identifies as "usually resident" in the United States. Notably, this significant change aligns with the day of eviction from Frogmore Cottage, the Windsor residence bestowed upon him and Meghan by the late Queen Elizabeth.
"I fear this indicates that the relationship with his family has not recovered as anticipated and may never fully mend," lamented Harrold. "While I held out hope for reconciliation, it now appears doubtful if such reconciliation is attainable."
Despite Prince Harry's desire for familial harmony, his recent actions underscore the enduring tensions within the royal family, casting doubt on the prospects for future reconciliation.
