Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Stepped Down as Senior Royals in 2020
In response to losing what he considered the "sole sanctuary" for his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in the UK, Prince Harry retroactively established his residency in the United States.
Following their resignation as senior royals in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to the US.
Despite maintaining Frogmore Cottage as their UK residence for a period, King Charles ordered their eviction from the royal property in 2023.
According to The Telegraph, Frogmore Cottage held significant sentimental value for Harry and Meghan, serving as the "only place that’s left as a safe space" for them and their children in the UK.
Although they rarely stayed at the property, choosing instead to reside in a Californian mansion in Montecito with their two children.
On Wednesday, documents submitted to Companies House in the UK revealed that Prince Harry amended his filings for Travalyst to declare his usual residence in the US rather than Britain.
Prince Harry founded Travalyst, a global travel coalition, in 2019, one year before relocating to the US with Meghan Markle.
Harry marked the day he and Meghan left Frogmore Cottage as the commencement of his formal US residency in June 2023.
The couple cleared out all of their belongings and returned the keys to the property by July 2023.
Royal commentator Phil Dampier told The Sun, "As always with Harry, a lot can be read into his actions. Being ousted from Frogmore Cottage wounded him deeply. Now he’s shown he accepts his life is in the US."
Prince Harry last visited the UK in February 2024 following King Charles's cancer diagnosis.
While the Duke of Sussex is expected to return to the UK in May 2024, it remains unclear if Meghan and their children will accompany him.
The Duchess of Sussex, Archie, and Lilibet did not travel to the UK in 2023 despite Harry making several trips to London.
