Shakira Reflects on Her Vocal Journey and Artistic Growth with the Launch of Her 12th Studio Album

Following the debut of her 12th studio album, "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran," Shakira delves into the nuances of her evolving vocal style and artistic progression.

In a recent sit-down on Hot Ones with host Sean Evans, the Colombian music sensation candidly explored aspects of her earlier singing technique that she now considers a tad excessive.

“Listening back to my earlier tracks, I realize I may have pushed the envelope with my vocal embellishments, particularly those distinctive cries,” Shakira admitted, playfully demonstrating her signature yodel. “It was somewhat over-the-top, veering into baroque territory. Ring a bell?”

She quipped, "A case of 'too much Shakira,' perhaps."

The "Whenever, Wherever" hitmaker further elaborated on her artistic metamorphosis, pointing to personal milestones that have shaped her musical evolution.

“Becoming a mother to my two sons has had a profound impact on my voice—it's taken on a deeper, fuller, and more rounded quality,” shared the Grammy-winning artist, acknowledging her children with ex-partner Gerard Piqué.

She added, “Beyond vocal changes, my artistic decisions have matured and become more refined. As I've grown as a woman and expanded my intellectual and emotional horizons, it's inevitably influenced the depth and richness of my music.”
