American Pie Singer Warns Prince Harry
Singer-songwriter Don McLean didn't shy away from criticizing Prince Harry, asserting that the Duke of Sussex "fails to understand America."
In his memoir, Spare, Harry launched several attacks, primarily directed at the Royal Family. He also disparaged his visit to Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion in Memphis.
Reflecting on his visit, Harry wrote: "Dark, claustrophobic. I walked around saying, 'The King lived here, you say? Really?'" He added, "The King's interior designer must have been on acid." Don was enraged by Harry's remarks and publicly rebuked him on social media, reigniting their feud.
At the time, Don took to Twitter to state: "'Prince' Harry should keep his mouth shut about Graceland and Elvis. He's a hothouse orchid, a show horse who never accomplished a thing."
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Don remarked: "He doesn’t grasp that Elvis is like the king of the common man. He rose from nothing, and his recordings are some of the greatest ever made."
He continued, "His family was as poor as they come, and yet Harry criticized Elvis' home as if he's comparing it to Buckingham Palace, completely missing the point. He's been raised to be polite, but you don't criticize America when you're a guest here."
Don went on to criticize the Duke of Sussex, asserting that he "simply doesn’t understand America." These comments come after Harry changed his primary residence from the United Kingdom to America in official paperwork related to his sustainable travel initiative, Travalyst. The paperwork was backdated to June 2023, coinciding with his and Meghan Markle's eviction from Frogmore Cottage.
