King Charles is significantly wealthier than his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
Officially crowned in 2023, King Charles now possesses a fortune that surpasses the wealth of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022. The 75-year-old monarch’s estimated personal wealth in 2024 was revealed by the Sunday Times Rich List, showing him as significantly richer than the late Queen.
While some royal fans and social media users might speculate that King Charles' wealth could exceed that of the world’s richest individuals, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, this is not the case. He still has a long way to go to rival their immense fortunes.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Jeff Bezos has reclaimed the title of the world’s richest person. In 2024, the Amazon founder’s net worth increased by $23 billion, bringing his total to $200 billion. Meanwhile, Tesla chief Elon Musk’s wealth dropped by $31 billion, placing his net worth at $198 billion.
King Charles’ personal wealth has seen a substantial increase, now standing at £610 million ($772 million) according to recent analysis. This marks a £10 million rise over the past year, attributed mainly to the enhanced value of his property portfolio. These findings are highlighted in the latest edition of the Sunday Times Rich List.
Following Queen Elizabeth II's death in 2022, Charles inherited private estates such as Sandringham in Norfolk and Balmoral in Aberdeenshire. These properties contribute significantly to his financial status. The late Queen’s wealth was estimated at £370 million in 2022, making Charles £240 million richer than his mother, with his net worth increasing from £600 million to £610 million in 2024, as reported by the Mirror, citing new analysis.
It’s important to note that only personal assets are included in these assessments, excluding the Crown Estate, the Duchy of Lancaster, and the Crown Jewels, which are held in trust by the King for the nation.
Charles also reportedly receives a private income of around £23 million annually from the Duchy of Cornwall. This income supports non-official expenditures for himself and his family, as well as covering the official costs of his personal staff, office, and residences.
King Charles is now ranked 258th on the list of the UK’s 350 wealthiest people and families, moving up from 263rd place in 2023.
