Royal experts and commentators suggest that the eldest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton will advance his grandfather King Charles’ agenda of modernizing the monarchy to better resonate with the public.
There are multiple ways in which Prince George may diverge from the paths of his predecessors, including his own father, Prince William.
In addition to potentially forgoing military training in later years, a traditional rite for male members of the royal family, Prince George will challenge convention through his mother, Kate Middleton.
Simon Vigar, royal correspondent for 5 News, remarked on this shift, stating, “It is a slimmed-down royal family already,” observing, “It is less formal, it's not quite as starchy as it used to be, and I think George will continue that. You know he's the first future king to have a 'commoner' as his mum,” he noted, “that in itself is a massive break from tradition.”
Richard Key, Editor-at-Large at the Daily Mail, echoed similar sentiments, drawing parallels between the future British monarchy and “the monarchies on mainland Europe.”
