Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have just completed a private tour of Nigeria, but King Charles III is reportedly set on using all his influence to prevent them from conducting similar future tours.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently wrapped up a successful three-day visit to Nigeria, where they promoted the Invictus Games and engaged with local dignitaries, visited schools in Abuja, and discussed mental well-being alongside Meghan’s Nigerian heritage. Following this success, the couple has planned more international tours resembling royal visits.
However, royal expert and author Tom Quinn told The Mirror that King Charles and Prince William are furious about Harry and Meghan’s unofficial royal tours, fearing they could enhance the couple’s public image.
“King Charles is in a terrible bind – he would love to strip Meghan and Harry of their royal titles but fears this would seem vindictive. On the other hand, he must find a way to stop Harry and Meghan from making future trips to other Commonwealth countries. This has become his top priority,” Quinn explained.
Quinn claims that King Charles will use back channels to block further invitations to the couple, although this will be challenging. “The ultimate fear for King Charles and William is that Meghan’s rebelliousness might make her more appealing than the more understated official royals. That’s why she always makes a point of holding Harry’s hand for the cameras, something she knows William and Kate would never do,” Quinn added.
While Harry and Meghan have garnered public admiration with their poignant tour of Nigeria, Buckingham Palace is reportedly distressed over the couple’s plans to travel to other Commonwealth countries.
“But after Nigeria, one thing is certain: immense efforts will be made to change how the royal family manages its role in the Commonwealth. Steps have already been taken through official channels to reduce the likelihood of other Commonwealth countries inviting Meghan and Harry to visit,” Quinn concluded.
