King Charles III has left fans astonished with a surprising announcement amid his ongoing battle with cancer.
On Friday, the 75-year-old monarch revealed his plans for his first overseas trip since disclosing his cancer diagnosis. This announcement comes amid claims that Prince Harry's recent trip to Nigeria had "angered" the King.
King Charles announced that he and Queen Camilla will travel to France on June 6 for the Ministry of Defense and the Royal British Legion’s commemorative event at the British Normandy Memorial, marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
This significant decision hints at the King’s determination to continue his royal duties. The trip will be his first international outing since his cancer diagnosis was made public on February 5.
The unexpected announcement seems to be a response to Prince Harry's actions, as the monarch's visit might help him move past Harry's perceived defiance.
Royal expert Tom Quinn, speaking to a media outlet, claimed that King Charles was upset by Harry and Meghan’s trip to Nigeria and was determined to prevent similar incidents in the future.
King Charles officially resumed public duties on April 30, visiting a cancer hospital in London with Queen Camilla. The Queen later remarked that the King was "really thrilled to be out."
During a garden party on May 16, Camilla provided an update on the King's health, humorously noting that he was "getting better" but adding, "Well, he would if he behaved himself."
On May 17, Buckingham Palace announced a series of royal engagements related to the D-Day anniversary. On June 5, King Charles and Queen Camilla will be joined by Prince William at the national commemorative event in Portsmouth.
Prince William will also participate in two events on June 6: the Canadian commemorative ceremony at the Juno Beach Centre in Courseulles-sur-Mer, hosted by the Government of Canada, and the international commemorative ceremony at Omaha Beach in Saint Laurent sur Mer, joining over 25 heads of state and veterans from around the world to mark this historic anniversary.
