Maya Jama gave a surprising response to the viral video of her interaction with King Charles at a Buckingham Palace garden party, where the topic of the 'no touching' rule came up.
The event, held on Wednesday, celebrated the UK’s creative arts industry and its contribution to the economy, bringing together around 4,000 guests. Among the notable attendees was British television presenter and radio DJ Maya Jama.
Dressed in a blue checked dress and a matching wide-brimmed hat, Jama playfully conversed with the King. She introduced herself by saying, “I host Love Island, I don’t know if you watch that though. That’s like a reality dating show. That’s what I do.” The King, seemingly unfamiliar with the show, responded with a reference to the Channel 4 series, "There’s One Born Every Minute." Jama acknowledged with a laugh, “There is, yeah.”
During their exchange, Jama humorously mentioned a previous encounter with the King, recalling how she had inadvertently touched him, breaching royal protocol. She said, “Nice to meet you. Well, I've actually met you before, a long time ago. About something with the Princes’ Trust and I touched you. I wasn’t supposed to. This time I won't.” The King laughed and reassured her, “Don’t worry about it,” to which she replied, “You don’t mind, yeah?”
Following the event, Jama shared her experience on social media. One fan commented, "I love the fact you said the words 'I touched you but I was not supposed to' to the King of the United Kingdom." Jama cheekily replied, "How do you know that."
Other prominent guests from the worlds of culture, art, film, TV, radio, and fashion included Kate Moss, Lenny Henry, Tracey Emin, and Sir Ridley Scott.
Queen Camilla also attended, looking regal in a dusty pink mid-length dress by Anna Valentine, paired with a Moynat bag valued at over £2,700, as reported by GB News.
The garden party highlighted the significant economic value of the creative arts sector and its role in promoting British culture globally.
