Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly struggling to keep their children from discovering their royal heritage.
Royal commentator Tom Quinn told The Mirror that their son, Prince Archie, 5, is keen to connect with the royal family despite efforts by his parents to shield him from this part of his identity.
Quinn claimed that King Charles, 75, wanted to send an extravagant gift for Archie's birthday last week, but Meghan refused to accept it. "Archie loves the idea that his grandad lives in a castle, and Meghan was worried that a magnificent shepherd’s hut or similar extravagant present would only heighten Archie’s growing interest in his royal connections," Tom explained.
"She doesn’t want Britain to become a longed-for fantasy for her son, so she had been pushing Harry to insist that his father get Archie a simple present."
Quinn added that King Charles hasn't seen his grandson Archie since 2022 and that Archie misses him. "Many of Archie’s books are about kings, princesses, and castles, and he knows enough to understand that his grandfather lives in a castle. He is apparently desperate to visit the UK with his father, but Meghan and Harry don’t want to encourage this," he said.
For context, Harry and Meghan were still active members of the royal family when Archie was born. The couple announced their decision to step down from their royal duties when Archie was only eight months old.
