In 2022, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, revealed she is 43 percent Nigerian, a discovery she made through a genealogy test.
During a tour of Nigeria, Meghan Markle mesmerized onlookers in a traditional dress as she and Prince Harry engaged in various activities in Lagos.
After spending two days in Abuja, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in Lagos this morning for a private meeting with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Meghan wore a vibrant, flowing yellow dress for the meeting at the Governor’s residence. Discussions between the Sussexes and the Governor covered topics such as the Invictus Games, mental health awareness, and their visit to Nigeria.
Following the meeting, Meghan was photographed in front of the Marina State House wearing a matching shawl, reportedly a gift from the Governor's wife.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his hopes for Prince Harry's visit, saying, "For Prince Harry, this has been a very interesting and informative trip. He has seen a lot and is still absorbing the richness of our country. We hope he appreciates the diversity and the efforts we make to live together in peace and harmony."
He added, "On behalf of all of us in Lagos, we are excited and happy to have you with us this afternoon."
During an engagement at a World Trade Organization women's event in Abuja, Meghan called Nigeria "my country" and vowed to wear more vibrant colors during her stay. She said, "I want to start by saying thank you very much for how gracious you've all been in welcoming my husband and me to this country… my country. I am flattered, honored, and inspired. It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived. And I quickly got the memo that I need to wear more color to fit in with all of you and your incredible fashion."
Meghan Markle's embrace of her Nigerian heritage has added a personal and meaningful touch to the royal couple's tour.
