Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were reportedly forced to sit apart when they attended Pippa Middleton's wedding.
The newly-in-love couple were banned from sitting together at Pippa Middleton's wedding reception due to a peculiar rule she enforced for her guests that day.
Guests were surprised to find that they had been banned from sitting with their significant others on the seating plan.
This meant that after traveling 3,000 miles from the US to attend with Harry, Meghan was not allowed to sit with him. It was a significant setback for Meghan, who wanted to be with Harry at the lavish event.
According to Harper's Bazaar, the etiquette guide Debrett's states: "It is up to the host to decide whether husbands and wives are to be seated together or apart at formal events." This rule is thought to help guests get to know one another better.
Meghan almost didn't get to attend at all due to Pippa's "no ring, no bring" rule, which meant guests could only bring a spouse or fiancé as their date.
However, Kate's sister Pippa made an exception for Meghan, allowing her to attend the after-party with Harry, and the pair were photographed at the event. Pippa's brother James also received an exception, as he brought a date who wasn't wearing an engagement or wedding ring.
Pippa and James married at St. Mark's Church in Englefield on May 20, 2017, with Prince William and Kate Middleton's children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, serving as pageboy and bridesmaid.
