Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet deeply miss their mother, Meghan Markle, on this year's Mother's Day.
Currently in Nigeria with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle's absence leaves her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, feeling her absence on this special day. The Duchess of Sussex will miss the US Mother's Day celebration, while Archie and Lilibet remain in California, cared for by their maternal grandmother, Doria Ragland, in Montecito.
As Mother's Day in America falls on May 11, the UK's celebration was already held on March 10. Despite the distance, Meghan keeps her children close in her thoughts, mentioning them during her engagements with schoolchildren in Nigeria.
During a talk with Nigerian schoolchildren, Meghan shared, "Our daughter, Lili, she's much, much tinier than you guys. She's about to turn three. And a few weeks ago she looked at me and she would just see the reflection in my eyes. And she goes, ‘Mama, I see me in you.’ Oh, now she was talking really literally."
She continued, "But I hung onto those words in a very different way. And I thought, yes, I do see me in you, and you see me in you. As I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well." Meghan, who discovered her 43% Nigerian heritage through an ancestry test last year, connected deeply with the class.
Harry and Meghan are scheduled to return to the USA on Monday, following visits to the Nigerian capital of Lagos and Kaduna, eager to reunite with their family in California.
