Prince Harry may face criticism following his announcement of increased travel as part of his efforts for positive transformation.
After returning to the United States this week from a visit to the UK and a three-day tour of Nigeria with his wife Meghan Markle, he described the trip as successful and emphasized the importance of ongoing travel for both of them.
The Duke stated, "It is hugely important for us to meet directly with people, supporting our causes and listening, in order to bring about solutions, support, and positive change."
Speaking to PEOPLE, he continued, "There’s only so much one can do from home and over Zoom, so we look forward to traveling more because the work matters. Whether it's the Archewell Foundation, Invictus, or any of our other causes, there will always be reasons to meet the people at the heart of our work."
However, he may risk public backlash once again, especially after previously facing criticism for his comments regarding air miles. In December 2022, the Prince raised eyebrows after urging travelers to fly less.
Harry had previously founded Travalyst, a project aimed at improving conservation and environmental protection. The company shared a newsletter encouraging people to take fewer trips, opt for economy class, and pack light to be more sustainable.
His words were met with accusations of hypocrisy after both Harry and Meghan were seen taking private jets to attend various events and engagements.
In response to the claims, Harry stated that he only does so sporadically or in circumstances that help keep his family safe. He also insisted that he always offsets his carbon dioxide emissions.
Prince Harry and Meghan's recent trip to Nigeria saw them participate in numerous charity events and meetings with key figures, delivering poignant speeches. The couple visited the African country to promote the Invictus Games and met with injured servicemen while also participating in fundraising events.
