Prince Harry Holds Key Opportunity in Nigeria to Mend Royal Rift

An expert suggests that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a significant chance to mend relations with the royal family while in Nigeria.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently on an unofficial "royal tour" in Nigeria, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. During their visit, they have engaged in public engagements, including school visits, speeches on mental health, and attending a seated volleyball match.

Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal expert and commentator, emphasized the couple's potential to repair the rift by praising the Commonwealth during their time in Nigeria, given its membership in the country.

"The rift with the Royal Family is deep and public, largely due to their recent criticisms," Fitzwilliams stated to the Mirror. "If they choose to commend the Commonwealth while in Nigeria, it could aid in healing relations."

Fitzwilliams continued, "The Commonwealth is Queen Elizabeth's significant legacy, and it's likely that the King was displeased with Harry's interview on Good Morning America, especially regarding family unity, given the circumstances surrounding his father's diagnosis."

He suggested that arranging a private meeting upon their return to Britain could facilitate reconciliation, particularly with Harry's father. Fitzwilliams noted that the couple's trip showcases the enduring appeal of their brand, though recent events have weakened it.

"Rebuilding trust with the royal family will be a lengthy process, and there's a possibility it may never fully occur," Fitzwilliams concluded, highlighting the sobering reality of the situation.
