During their tour in Nigeria, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received more than 20 gifts, now free from the constraints of royal protocol.
At an event dedicated to combating antimicrobial resistance, the Prince of Wales expressed a grave concern. Prince William stressed the urgent need for action against drug-resistant superbugs, highlighting the critical juncture at which the world finds itself.
The prince warned of the necessity for new medicines and vaccines to safeguard future generations against the escalating threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). He underscored the dire need to recognize the links between climate change and drug resistance, urging for new measures to access both new and existing vaccines, diagnostics, and medicines.
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's recent trip to Nigeria has stirred controversy, with some critics dubbing it an unofficial royal tour. Royal expert Tom Quinn, speaking to The Mirror, suggested that Prince William is extremely displeased with the couple. "William is absolutely furious and determined to prevent this from happening again. Charles is said to be angrier than anyone has ever seen him," he claimed.
The uproar stems from the fact that the Nigerians treated Meghan and Harry as though it were an official tour, complete with dances, receptions, and visits to schools and charities. Quinn noted that the Royal Family had feared Meghan and Harry might "pull a fast one," and the Nigeria trip seems to have validated these fears. "It’s as if Harry and Meghan have gone rogue – their Nigeria trip is a bold statement that they refuse to accept they are no longer working royals," he explained.
"William and Charles are scratching their heads, wondering how to manage this chaotic situation," Quinn continued. Reflecting on Meghan and Harry's trip, he pointed out that it closely resembled an official royal visit, complete with receptions and speeches, aimed at presenting them as active royals. "For Charles and William, it’s as if Meghan and Harry are saying, 'We don’t need your permission to be working royals – we will do it on our own terms whenever and wherever we like.'"
