According to a recent report, despite the attack on the portrait, the 75-year-old King, who is battling cancer, has decided not to escalate the situation further.
Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker addressed the incident on GB News, highlighting that the King's focus remains on upcoming events such as Trooping the Colour this weekend and the Order of the Garter on Monday. Walker noted that Buckingham Palace has opted not to comment publicly on the incident, likely to avoid giving the protesters more attention and potentially inciting further acts of vandalism.
"I suspect it's because they don't want to give this group the oxygen of publicity, encouraging more acts of vandalism," explained Walker during the interview with host Martin Daubney.
While acknowledging the King's reported fondness for Wallace and Gromit, Cameron Walker emphasized that King Charles's attention is primarily directed towards official royal engagements rather than the incident at the art gallery.
The vandalism at the Philip Mould Gallery involved covering the King's portrait with an image of Wallace and adding a speech bubble criticizing animal farming practices under the RSPCA Assured Scheme. Daniel Juniper, one of the protesters involved, expressed that their actions aimed to draw the King's attention to what they perceive as issues in UK farms.
"With King Charles being such a big fan of Wallace and Gromit, we couldn’t think of a better way to draw his attention to the horrific scenes on RSPCA Assured farms," said Juniper, explaining their motivation.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns over animal welfare and activism, highlighting the challenges faced by the royal family in managing public perceptions and maintaining decorum amidst protests.
