Buckingham Palace Releases King Charles' Statement as Prince William Takes Major Role

The Royal Family has unveiled a new video featuring King Charles III, along with a meaningful statement from the monarch, following his first overseas public engagement since his cancer diagnosis in February.

The royal family's social media accounts shared the clip, which includes the King's heartfelt words amid reports that Prince William is stepping up to assume a major role.

The Palace shared the King's statement with the video: "On the beaches of Normandy, in the seas beyond, and in the skies overhead, our Armed Forces carried out their duty with a humbling sense of resolve and determination: qualities so characteristic of that remarkable wartime generation." It continued, "On #DDay80, The King speaks at the National Commemoration at the British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer."

In the video, King Charles appears in high spirits as the memories of D-Day veterans were read out at the commemorative event. World leaders, including Rishi Sunak, Joe Biden, and Emmanuel Macron, attended the ceremony in France.

This post comes amid reports that Prince William is stepping up after doctors advised the King to rest. According to royal sources cited by a media outlet, King Charles will miss the international ceremony on medical advice due to his ongoing cancer treatment. Instead, Prince William will represent the monarchy at the event at Omaha Beach.
