Prince William made a solo appearance at the event, mingling with guests and seen smiling while chatting with a lady as the Duke and Duchess of Westminster exited the church to greet fans.
William received kind words of support from a member of the public who shouted their best wishes for Kate as he left the cathedral. This came two days after he shared an update on his wife during a special appearance in Portsmouth for a D-Day event. A veteran had asked about Kate's wellbeing.
"She is better, thanks," William replied. "She would've loved to be here today. I was reminding everybody, her grandmother served at Bletchley, so she would have had quite a bit in common with a few of the other ladies here who served at Bletchley but never spoke about it until the very end."
Kate is expected to remain out of the public eye until her medical team clears her return to royal duties, as she needs time and privacy to recover.
Fans are hopeful that Kate, William, and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—will make an appearance at Trooping the Colour on June 15.
