With Frogmore Cottage, once inhabited by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, now in contention, the 75-year-old monarch reportedly urges his embroiled brother, the Duke of York, to depart the 30-room Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Royal commentator Tom Quinn remarked, "For King Charles, compelling Andrew to relocate to Frogmore tackles multiple issues simultaneously. It signals to Harry that, as a private citizen no longer engaged in royal duties, he's permanently excluded from Frogmore."
Prince Harry withdrew from royal responsibilities four years ago but continued renting Frogmore Cottage for three years, even staying there during the Platinum Jubilee in 2022. However, following the publication of his memoir "Spare," Harry and Meghan were ousted from the cottage in 2023.
As a consequence, the Duke of Sussex has resorted to hotel stays during his recent visits to the UK.
Quinn further elaborated, stating, "It also communicates to Andrew that, having tarnished his reputation, he can't expect to maintain a lavish lifestyle."
He added, "Lastly, it ensures that a fittingly grand abode can be readied for the royals of utmost importance, namely William and Kate. Charles is resolute that Royal Lodge, the grandest residence on the Windsor estate, is reserved solely for his heir."
Prince Andrew's departure from public life ensued in 2019 after a disastrous Newsnight interview addressing his association with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.
Despite his retreat, Andrew remains at Royal Lodge, his residence since 2003, while nearby Princess Kate and Prince William reside in Adelaide Cottage.
This latest development underscores a shifting dynamic within the royal family, with Frogmore Cottage at the center of a strategic realignment under King Charles's reign.
