Reports suggest that King Charles is eager to reconcile with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet by seeking a reunion with Prince Harry and Meghan.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, royal commentator Michael Cole reflected on the monarch’s remorse over his limited relationship with his grandchildren and his desire to mend it.
The King has only met Prince Archie a few times since the Sussexes moved to the US, and he has seen his youngest granddaughter, Princess Lilibet, only once during the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
“The King keenly feels the lack of closeness with his California grandchildren. His own childhood was affected by his parents’ lengthy absences on extensive Commonwealth tours, some lasting as long as six months,” Cole shared with the outlet.
“Realizing how precious time is, the King deeply regrets not being closer to his grandchildren Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet,” Cole explained.
He further noted, “The strained relationship between Prince Harry, Meghan, and the Royal Family has created a significant divide, making normal family relationships almost impossible.”
Cole hinted at the King’s warming attitude towards the possibility of welcoming the Sussexes back into the royal circle should they consider the offer.
“His greatest regret is being unable to spend time with Archie and Lilibet. Nothing would bring him more comfort and joy than having them with him regularly,” he emphasized.
“Unless Harry and Meghan can rediscover the love they profess for the world and its people, apart from her father and most of her family, reconciliation seems unlikely,” added the former royal correspondent.
