King Charles is reportedly eager to visit America to strengthen his relationship with his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, who live there with their parents, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to the US four years ago following their departure from the Royal Family.
According to royal expert Jennie Bond, the King has had limited opportunities to spend time with Archie and Lilibet due to their distance and the family tensions. Bond expressed that grandchildren hold a special place in a grandfather's heart and emphasized Charles' desire to create memories with them.
"I can imagine that the King very much wants the chance to get to know Archie and Lilibet and to create some memories for them," Bond told OK! magazine. She also suggested that the children could play a pivotal role in bridging the divides within the family.
Bond added that she hopes Harry will not follow Meghan's example of remaining estranged from her father and most of her family, implying that reconnecting through the children could heal past conflicts.
Royal author Tom Quinn revealed that Charles is in discussions to visit America officially, potentially including time to visit Harry, Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet. He mentioned that Queen Camilla supports efforts to strengthen their bond, especially after Charles sent Lilibet a heartfelt gift and card for her recent third birthday.
"While an official visit to the United States is under discussion, Charles is eager to ensure time to visit his youngest son and his grandchildren," Quinn stated. He noted that although such a visit requires extensive planning, Charles is determined to overcome any obstacles to see Archie and Lilibet.
Quinn also mentioned the possibility of a discreet private visit if an official trip proves challenging to arrange. He emphasized Charles' eagerness to be seen as a warm and friendly grandfather by Archie and Lilibet, hoping they will remember him fondly despite the distance.
