King Charles Welcomes Japanese Emperor Amid Concerns for Princess Anne's Recovery

Princess Anne is set to miss the state banquet for the Japanese Emperor at Buckingham Palace due to her recent injury.

King Charles made his first public appearance since Princess Anne's accident as she continues to recover from a head injury caused by a horse. The 75-year-old monarch appeared somber as he and Queen Camilla awaited the ceremonial welcome of Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at Horse Guards Parade.

Prince William, the Prince of Wales, was tasked with escorting the royal guests from their hotel to the venue, where they will later attend a state banquet at Buckingham Palace.

This visit marks the first time a Japanese head of state has visited the UK since 1998, aiming to strengthen military, scientific, and cultural ties between the two nations.

Princess Anne's absence from the banquet is due to an unforeseen accident on Sunday evening at her Gloucestershire estate, where she was struck on the head by a horse. She is currently receiving treatment for minor injuries and a concussion, necessitating a temporary break from her royal duties.

Anne is expected to be disappointed as she will miss the upcoming royal visit to Canada and eight other engagements scheduled for the week.

A statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed that the King is being kept closely informed and "joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery."
