Prince Harry is feeling the weight of his past mistakes, finding himself in a "painful place" after the royal family’s harsh response to his previous actions.
The Duke of Sussex is reportedly under significant stress due to comments he and Meghan Markle made about the royal family in recent years.
Harry’s memoir, released in January 2023, contained numerous shocking revelations about the royal family. At the time, royal commentators and historians warned that Harry would regret his statements.
The father-of-two has since been excluded from several family events. He was notably absent from the Trooping the Colour celebrations earlier this month and was "left upset" watching Kate’s return from his Southern California home, according to a source.
Harry was eager to be part of the King's official birthday celebrations and reportedly would have attended alone, without Meghan, to ease the tensions, the source added.
"He's heartbroken and confused by the way they’ve cut him off and seemingly haven’t given it another thought. He would have dearly loved to have been there, if only to congratulate and support Kate in person on what must have been an incredibly difficult day for her," a royal insider told Closer magazine.
Royal expert Tessa Dunlop told Us Weekly, "When you discover that your sister-in-law has cancer and you’ve written things that can’t be retracted, that’s quite a painful place to be in. I’m not saying it isn’t."
Dunlop pointed out that the past criticisms made by Harry and Meghan of the royal family have become more problematic now that both the Princess of Wales and King Charles are battling cancer. She warned that Harry and Meghan will need to be cautious about making further revelations about their royal relatives.
