Prince Harry, who stepped back from his senior royal role in 2020 with Meghan Markle, is seen as paving the way for the future of his niece, Princess Charlotte, and nephew, Prince Louis.
According to an insider quoted by The Daily Beast, Prince William intends to make significant changes to royal tradition once he ascends the throne, aiming to resolve the longstanding issue surrounding the role of "spare" heirs, which has strained his relationship with his brother.
“The working assumption is that the younger two children will get on and do their own thing. They will be encouraged to not become working royals,” the source explained.
The Duke of Sussex has previously detailed in his memoir, "Spare," how living in the shadow of his older brother, William, affected him deeply. The publication of this memoir exacerbated tensions between the siblings, who are currently estranged.
In response to the rift, Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly planning to take steps to avoid a similar situation with their own children.
The insider also noted that William supports his father’s vision for a streamlined monarchy and intends to go further by maintaining a distance between his younger children and royal duties, keeping them “at arm’s length from royal life.”
