Hugh Grosvenor, a close friend of Prince Harry, has released a statement amidst swirling reports suggesting that the Duke of Sussex will not be attending Grosvenor's wedding at Chester Cathedral on June 7.
Grosvenor, who serves as the godfather to both Prince George and Prince Archie, is set to marry Olivia Henson in a grand ceremony expected to host 400 guests. Despite Prince William's rumored participation as an usher, reports indicate Prince Harry's absence after allegedly declining the invitation.
The wedding has been anticipated as the society event of the year, marking the union of the UK's wealthiest individual under 40.
In an interview during a visit to the wedding venue, Grosvenor expressed gratitude for the support received in preparation for the occasion, sparking speculation about potential underlying meanings in his remarks.
"I think next time we're in here will be slightly more nerve-wracking, but I'm unbelievably excited. I just wanted to make it very clear how unbelievably helpful people have been, how supportive they've been so far, which I'm unbelievably grateful for," Grosvenor shared with Town & Country.
Acknowledging the significance of the event for the city and themselves, Grosvenor emphasized appreciation for the assistance received.
While Grosvenor reportedly desired the presence of the Sussexes at the wedding, their declining the invitation may have been to prevent overshadowing the celebration.
"He wishes they could put their heads together and patch things up, but realizes it's unlikely to happen before the wedding. He wanted to avoid anything overshadowing the day, especially for Olivia, and doesn't want any awkwardness," reported The Sunday Times.
It's noteworthy that Harry and Grosvenor shared a close bond, having traveled together in Africa and attended each other's birthday celebrations. Grosvenor's role as the godfather to Prince Archie underscores their once-strong relationship.
