Prince William Moves Closer to Becoming King

Prince William, next in line to the British throne as heir apparent, is reportedly making final preparations for his future royal role.

According to a royal insider, "The Prince of Wales knows he will not have to wait long to become King."

King Charles III ascended to the British throne on September 8, 2022, following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. His official coronation alongside Princess Kate took place on May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey in London.

Charles had been the longest-serving heir-apparent in history, holding the position for 70 years and 214 days, surpassing Edward VII's previous record of 59 years and 73 days.

The source noted, "William, however, has some more tasks to accomplish before becoming King."

"There is no indication that the King plans to abdicate, as William intends to wait for his father to complete his reign," they continued.

Despite some speculation from historians and others predicting King Charles may abdicate at age 80, allowing William and Princess Kate to take over, the King remains focused on his duties amid health concerns.

Touch Weekly previously reported that King Charles still ponders whether William is fully prepared to assume the throne.

Currently, Prince William is increasingly stepping in for his father at important events due to King Charles's ongoing battle with cancer. As heir apparent, Prince Charles had undertaken over 10,000 official engagements between 2002 and 2022 on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, preparing William for his future responsibilities.
