Princess Anne's political career could be taking off as her popularity extends beyond royal watchers, attracting even some republic supporters.
George Galloway, leader of the Workers Party of Britain, made a tongue-in-cheek remark backing Princess Anne for a new royal era. “Our issue is with unelected power... it’s why we oppose monarchy - nothing personal,” he told The Telegraph. “I happen to know Princess Anne and I’d have backed her for president of Britain any day, an outstanding woman.”
Royal commentator Kinsey Scofield noted that Princess Anne is “loved and admired” and is also the “hardest working royal.” She suggested that anti-monarchy sentiments have risen since Queen Elizabeth's death in 2022, but the country might not favor an elected leader in this manner.
“Think about the Trooping the Colour,” Scofield explained. “In this weird election season, the event brought everybody together. And no matter who you plan to vote for next week, everybody in the streets was celebrating the monarchy.”
The idea of Princess Anne being nominated as the UK’s president comes as the country prepares for the upcoming elections for prime minister.
