Prince William has taken on a larger role in the royal family as his wife, Kate Middleton, takes leave from royal duties to recover from cancer.
The absence of the Princess of Wales is deeply felt in the slimmed-down monarchy, especially as King Charles is also undergoing cancer treatment.
Many royal experts suggest that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie take on working royal roles. This move could benefit the monarchy and provide a more relatable image, a role previously expected of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle before they stepped down in 2020.
However, PR expert Grayce McCormick told GB News that this move could backfire and lead to internal conflicts within the royal family.
“The emergence of new working royals may fuel comparisons and competition within the Royal Family,” McCormick explained. “It could potentially lead to internal tensions or conflicts that could damage the monarchy’s public image.”
Beatrice, 35, and Eugenie, 34, belong to the younger generation of royals, while many senior working royals are over 70, excluding William, Kate, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, 59.
If Beatrice and Eugenie step into the forefront, the press would likely compare their activities with Kate’s, potentially causing friction. This mirrors past issues between the then-Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, with Charles reportedly feeling overshadowed by Diana's popularity.
