Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may not receive an invitation to spend the summer in Balmoral, according to a royal expert, potentially derailing their hopes for a reunion with the royal family.
Reports suggest that the royal family plans to spend their summer holidays at Balmoral following a challenging start to 2024. In February, King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis. The following month, Kate Middleton revealed that she has been undergoing preventative chemotherapy, surprising royal fans.
Speaking to The Sun, royal expert Sarah Hewson addressed the rumours, suggesting that the Monarch might consider inviting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Balmoral. "We're always told the King's door is always open, but would they be invited? I don't see an actual physical invitation being issued but were they to ask, it would be very difficult for the King to say no," Hewson stated.
She added, "He doesn't want this distance with his son, and he certainly doesn't want this barrier between him and his grandchildren... we aren't going to see the King jumping on a plane to California to see them."
Regarding Kate and William's possible feelings about a reunion with the California-based couple, the royal commentator noted, "We know things with the Waleses and the Sussexes are extremely tense. I don't see any signs of any thawing there - and it's really not a priority."
Hewson further revealed that the future King of England is focused on maintaining calm and reducing stress during the Princess' recuperation.
