Princess Kate honors Wimbledon champions as she skips women's singles final.
Princess Kate released a stunning video celebrating the legendary female champions of Wimbledon as Barbora Krejcikova claimed her first title by defeating Jasmine Paolini on Saturday. Shared on the official Instagram of Kate and Prince William, the message read: "Celebrating the Ladies Champions of @Wimbledon over the years today. The Championships are like no other and these legends of the game show exactly what it means to be a champion here."
Krejcikova from the Czech Republic secured her victory with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, against Italy's Paolini at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on July 13, 2024.
Despite Kate missing the women's final due to her ongoing cancer treatment, she has been cleared by doctors to attend the men's singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic on July 14, confirmed by Kensington Palace.
Former Olympian Kriss Akabusi praised Kate's decision, stating, "Princess Kate's choice to attend Wimbledon will help alleviate concerns."
However, some royal fans were disappointed with her absence from the women's final, with one commenting, "Would it not have been better if Catherine went to the ladies' final, as the men's final can go on for hours." Another added, "Shocking support for women's sports. No attendance for the women's World Cup final and now no support for the women's tennis final from either. We definitely know now who they prefer to watch. Kate champions for women, yeah right."
