Kate Middleton's Passion for Wimbledon Unveiled as 2024 Tournament Begins

As Wimbledon 2024 kicks off, Kate Middleton's deep love and passion for tennis come into the spotlight once again. The Princess of Wales, though her appearance this year remains uncertain, has previously shared her heartfelt connection to the sport.

In a 2017 BBC documentary, Sue Barker: Our Wimbledon, Kate Middleton revealed her long-standing affection for the tournament. "I have watched Wimbledon, that was very much part of my growing up," she said. She further added, "It's such a quintessential part of the English summer, and I think it really inspires youngsters. It inspired me when I was younger to get involved in the game. It hasn't changed either; I think that's what's so wonderful."

Wimbledon, which commenced on July 1 in England, holds a special place in Princess Kate's heart. As the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), she has been a frequent attendee since her marriage to Prince William.

However, this year marks a deviation from tradition. The future Queen of England is currently undergoing preventative chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis.

Debbie Jevans, the chair of the All England Club, told Telegraph Sport, "We're hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority." She added, "We don't know what we don’t know. All we've said is that we'll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible."
