King Charles Appoints Bear Grylls to Key Army Role to Inspire Young Recruits

Bear Grylls has been appointed as the Honorary Colonel of the Army Foundation College (AFC) in Harrogate by King Charles, marking a significant role for the renowned TV adventurer in inspiring new recruits.

The AFC, a crucial institution for preparing young Brits to join the Armed Forces, welcomed Grylls into his new position, where he will serve as a leading figure of motivation and guidance.

Grylls shared his enthusiasm for the appointment on social media, alongside a photograph of himself in military camouflage attire.

The AFC is known for fostering the character, skills, and resilience of its students, aiming to equip them for success both in military service and in life beyond. Grylls emphasized that regardless of background, commitment to doing one's best and upholding the Army's values and standards opens doors to adventure, challenge, qualifications, lifelong friendships, and enduring confidence.

Looking ahead, Grylls teased upcoming adventures in his role. As a former Territorial Army SAS soldier and current Chief Scout, he also holds the position of Honorary Colonel of the Royal Marines Reserve since June 2021.

His inaugural official duty will be overseeing 600 junior soldiers marching at the college's August graduation, marking the beginning of their next training phase.
