A charming moment from King Charles' past has reemerged, showcasing his dance moves in Rio de Janeiro. A video from 1978 features the then Prince of Wales dancing with Samba dancer Pina de Beija-Flora.
In the footage, Charles looks dapper in a tuxedo with a crisp white shirt, black bow tie, smart trousers, and polished shoes. Pina dazzles in a glittery white and silver headpiece, paired with a revealing dress highlighting her slender frame and toned shoulders.
The event, hosted by Rio's mayor, shows the pair with arms around each other, enjoying a spirited dance. This occasion, held a year before Charles met Princess Diana, captures a memorable snapshot of his youthful exuberance.
During a 2009 visit to Rio with Queen Camilla, then Duchess of Cornwall, Charles humorously recalled his earlier dance. "On that first visit, I can remember dancing a somewhat rudimentary version of the samba with a rather dramatically semi-naked lady here in Rio," he quipped in a speech.
Reflecting on his more recent visit, Charles entertained the idea of a more reserved dance, suggesting a playful nod to his past encounter.
Although Pina had retired from her dazzling costumes by his second visit, reports hinted she was eager to reunite for another dance lesson with the Prince.
The resurfaced clip, recently shared by the Instagram account _royalsofeurope, has reignited nostalgia among royal enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into a lesser-known chapter of King Charles's life.
