King Charles to Modernize Crown Estate Under New Legislation

Princess Kate and Prince William's residence, Adelaide Cottage, is nestled within Windsor Great Park.

King Charles' Crown Estate is set for modernization following new legislation introduced during the King's Speech today.

During the State Opening of Parliament, Starmer presented King Charles, 75, with over 35 bills in the House of Lords, marking the official start of the new parliamentary session.

The Crown Estate Bill outlines key updates: "This Bill will modernize The Crown Estate by removing outdated restrictions on its activities, expanding its investment powers, and granting it the ability to borrow for faster-paced investments.

"These measures, adhering to our fiscal rules, will unlock significant investment in public infrastructure, benefiting the nation. This includes crucial marine investments to accelerate and quadruple offshore wind capacity by 2030, supporting the Government's clean power mission.

"Collectively, these reforms will ensure the successful future of The Crown Estate, aid in achieving our Clean Energy Superpower mission, and provide long-term financial returns to the UK taxpayer."

The Crown Estate, a multi-billion-pound entity, returns its profits to the Government to help fund public services. It operates independently, managing a portfolio of land and property owned by King Charles.

The Crown Estate plays a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the public infrastructure of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, generating over £3 billion for the Government in the last decade. It also serves as the owner and steward of the seabed of England and Wales.

The Crown Estate Bill, introduced at the State Opening of Parliament, aims to modernize the Crown Estate, improving its ability to manage UK public assets more effectively.
