Meghan Markle Faces Backlash for Criticizing 2017 Engagement Interview

Meghan Markle is under fire from royal insiders for comments she made about a 2017 TV interview with Mishal Husain and Prince Harry, marking their engagement. In the Sussexes' Netflix series, Meghan described the interview as an "orchestrated reality show," leading to accusations of insincerity.

Meghan claimed the interview was rehearsed and felt Husain "wasn't empathetic enough" to conduct it. Her remarks prompted Husain, known for her calm demeanor, to express her astonishment in Saga magazine. Husain wrote, "When the Duchess of Sussex said that my engagement interview with her and Harry was an 'orchestrated reality show,' I didn't know what to make of it. They seemed to have thought through what their new lives would be like and what marriage would mean for her life in particular. There was nothing that pointed to what would happen... It was two people who were full of joy in each other and life."

A BBC insider noted Husain's reaction was significant, stating, "Mishal is not easily riled, so this is a notable intervention... She clearly felt strongly about it."

Royal household sources now suggest Meghan's TV "performance" should have raised more concerns. One insider remarked, "At the time, there was so much excitement about the engagement that no one really questioned some of Meghan's comments. But, if you watch it again now, some of her responses seem insincere, and her body language is telling."

Recent polling by YouGov reflects this sentiment, with Meghan's approval rating among the British public at a mere 31 percent, only slightly higher than Prince Harry's and Prince Andrew's ratings of 23 and 12 percent, respectively.

The backlash against the Sussexes continues, with reports of Prince William enforcing a strict ban on Harry returning to the royal fold, despite King Charles's wishes. A source revealed, "The Prince of Wales refuses to speak to his brother, and his ban tells you everything you need to know about who is really in charge."

GB News' Royal Correspondent Cameron Walker recently commented, "I don't think Meghan wants to be a working member of the Royal Family again because she clearly disliked it so much last time... I don't see that happening."
