Meghan Markle, who has kept a low profile this year, might make a dramatic return to the spotlight with a "scandalous memoir." The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly considering this move to maintain her relevance, according to royal commentator Maureen Callahan.
Callahan told GBN America, “It’s been rumored for a long time that Meghan might write a memoir. There aren’t many things left that Meghan can pull out of her hat in terms of garnering some relevance. The Netflix deal is all but dead. She is doing a cooking show, but I can’t imagine many will watch it. The only other arrow in her quiver would be to write a scandalous memoir. It makes sense.”
Since their departure from the royal family, the public perception of Meghan and Prince Harry has declined significantly. Callahan elaborated, “It’s not just her popularity that continues to decline; it’s also her cultural relevance.”
Despite a slight boost in favorability following her brand debut in March, Meghan's popularity in the UK and the US remains low. A poll of 1,500 US-eligible voters conducted by Redfield and Wilton for Newsweek in May found that only 36 percent of adults liked Meghan, while 24 percent disliked her.
In contrast, Kate Middleton and Prince William continue to enjoy higher favorability ratings. Kate is viewed positively by 45 percent and negatively by 13 percent of US adults, while William is liked by 40 percent and disliked by 12 percent. Prince Harry is viewed favorably by 42 percent and unfavorably by 18 percent.
As Meghan considers her next steps, a memoir could potentially reshape public opinion and revive her cultural relevance.
