Meghan Markle has revealed the existence of a secret diary, causing concerns about potential additional revelations. She discovered the diary while packing up her belongings as the Sussexes left Frogmore Cottage, their first residence as part of the royal family. The cottage, gifted by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2019, was renovated using taxpayers' money, which the couple later reimbursed.
Their stay at the five-bedroom house was brief. By the end of 2019, they announced their decision to step back from royal duties and vacated the cottage in 2020. After moving to Montecito, California, Meghan and Harry have openly criticized other royal family members in American media, leading to ongoing friction.
Harry seems to have adjusted to life in the US. Despite rushing back to see his father Charles following a cancer diagnosis, he did not meet him during a subsequent visit to the UK in May for an Invictus Games ceremony.
In June 2022, Meghan shared with The Cut her surprise at what she had written in the diary during their time at Frogmore Cottage. "You go back and you open drawers and you're like, Oh my gosh. This is what I was writing in my journal there?" she said, sparking fears of further disclosures.
A year later, the Sussexes returned the keys to the cottage. In his memoir Spare, Harry claimed that he and Meghan were "evicted" by Charles after they decided to leave the royal family.
