Prince Harry Identifies the Royal Who First Called Him 'Spare'

Prince Harry has revealed the identity of the royal family member who originally dubbed him 'spare,' causing a stir worldwide.

In his latest book, "Spare," released in January 2023, the Duke of Sussex disclosed that it was his father, King Charles, who first used the term. This nickname was supposedly given during a conversation with his late mother, Princess Diana, on the day of his birth.

Harry described a specific instance in his memoir where his father allegedly celebrated his birth by saying to Diana, "Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an Heir and a Spare—my work is done." He notes this comment was likely made in jest but quickly follows with a poignant anecdote: "Minutes after delivering this bit of high comedy, Pa was said to have gone off to meet with his girlfriend. Many a true word is spoken in jest."

The prince's revelation highlights his perceived role within the royal family—as the secondary figure, always in the background. He writes, "I was brought into this world in case something happened to Willy."

These explosive claims have added more tension to the already strained relationships within the royal family. Despite the depth of his revelations, Harry suggested that there was more he could have included. "It could have been two books, put it that way. And the hard bit was taking things out," he shared, hinting at the breadth of his experiences and insights that were left unpublished.
