Duchess of Sussex's Estrangement from Thomas Markle Raises Concerns
Meghan Markle’s strained relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, sparked significant concerns within the Royal Family, according to a royal insider.
Thomas Markle, celebrating his 80th birthday today, has not communicated with Meghan for over six years. Their relationship deteriorated publicly before Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018, notably when Thomas staged paparazzi photos. Despite his public appeals for reconciliation through television interviews, Thomas has yet to meet his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, or his son-in-law Prince Harry.
A source revealed that the late Queen Elizabeth II was worried about the impact of Meghan’s public disputes with her father on the Royal Family’s reputation. "Meghan's public disagreements with her father set alarm bells ringing at the time," the source told the Mail. "Her Majesty realized the potential damage they could do to the Royal Family in general. Looking back, the Queen might have had an inkling of what was to come."
Royal commentator Michael Cole shared his views with GB News, suggesting that the Sussexes might have irreparably damaged their familial relationships. "It is interesting to note that Meghan is not on speaking terms with any of her family apart from her mother and a niece. Nobody else in her family speaks to her, and she does not speak to them," Cole remarked. "Likewise, the relationship between Prince Harry and his family is hardly existing at this moment, which is not surprising considering the criticism that has been laid about the Royal Family from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex since they departed from the royal circle."
Cole added, "It is difficult to see how those relationships are going to be mended without some apologies on the part of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They are showing no signs of that."
The ongoing estrangement and public disputes have cast a shadow over the Royal Family, underscoring the challenges posed by personal conflicts within a highly publicized and scrutinized institution.
