The Hidden Message in Princess Kate's Black and White Portrait of Prince George

Princess Kate Honors Tradition with Black and White Portrait of Prince George on His 11th Birthday

Princess Kate shared a black and white portrait of Prince George on his 11th birthday, a gesture deeply rooted in royal tradition.

In an interview with Express.co.uk, former commissioned royal photographer Ian Pelham-Turner explained that the royal family has a long-standing affinity for black and white photography, a tradition Catherine aims to preserve. He noted, "The royal family used to love black and white photography," and Princess Kate continues to keep this tradition in the "public eye."

Recalling his experience, Pelham-Turner shared, "I took William's first Christmas baby shoot with Charles and Diana, and most of that was done in black and white because it was the trendy thing to do at the time."

Pelham-Turner emphasized that colors in photographs can sometimes distract from the main theme. "With black and white, it's symbolic of showcasing the royal family without any distraction of color," he added. He also mentioned that the black and white photograph has a nostalgic element, reminiscent of former portraits of the royal family.

For those unfamiliar, Kate Middleton and Prince William released the charming portrait of their firstborn along with a sweet birthday message on the official social media pages of the Wales family on July 22. The royal couple wrote, "Wishing Prince George a very happy 11th birthday today!"
