William and Kate's Children Face Safety Concerns Over Lower Buckingham Palace Balcony

The balcony of Buckingham Palace has long been a focal point for many significant royal events. For the first time, the public will soon have the chance to view the iconic east wing balcony that has been the stage for numerous appearances by the Royal Family.

Ahead of the public opening, royal correspondent Emily Nash was given an exclusive preview. She expressed concerns about the balcony’s height, especially for the young children of Prince William and Princess Kate.

While visitors will not be allowed onto the balcony itself, Emily noted its surprisingly low height, which made her uneasy about children being on it. “I was struck by how low the balcony is,” she remarked. “I would be very nervous about letting my own children out there.”

Speaking on Hello! Magazine's A Right Royal podcast, she shared her thoughts: “The balcony is much lower than you think. Although you're not allowed to step onto it, it’s quite deep, allowing several people to stand behind each other.”

She also highlighted that the balustrade is not particularly high, and that small boxes are used to help the youngest children see over the edge during events like the flypast. “I’d be inclined to put reins on the children, especially the lively ones,” she added, hinting at Prince Louis.

Podcast host Emmy Griffiths questioned why the balcony wasn’t accessible to the public, to which Andrea Caamano responded, "It sounds dangerous."
